Has anyone else had a cracked head?
If so, what was the cause?
Was it covered under warranty?
Factory (6mo), Y.E.S. Warranty or aftermarket?

Thanks for the input.

cracked head

I might have some from the first time.
I know of 3 people so far that this has happened to.
Mine is the second time. 1st time covered, this time not, even with an extended warratny from Yamaha Y.E.S.

They said the previous dealer torque the head too tight!
But I don't think that is correct since the first time it happened it was factory torqued and so were the others that I know.

Head is near $600 and the cylinder is $255 + labor, gaskets. etc.

Yeah, i had worse then that. My 04 YFZ's motor was totaled when the rod snapped and it spun in the case and actually sawed the motor in half. There was a hole in the case the size of a grapefuit. It ripped the starter off and demolished the piston and head. I took it to the dealer and they ended up giving me a brand new 2005 Motor right of the assembly line. Luckily i bought the extended warrenty. It cost them close to $3500. Hope this doesn't happen to you but the 05 motor is way more powerful than my old one was. I only had close to 90 hours on it when it happened.

Well someone lied to you. :D

But seriously, there have been very few quads in their first year of production that have had significant problems.

They may not have had significant problems but they still had problems.

Ehh...nothing soooooo bad that you'd have to wait till the next year. Some people just act like if you buy any first-year quad, that the engine will grenade, tranny fall out, and all the tires will explode within 1 hour.
It's all minor crap for the most part.

my friends yfz has one of the exhaust bolts on the head broke right off...not the actual bolt but it took a lil chunk of the head also...this of course could be caused by his constant need to hold it wide open down the paved roads but oh well
