hi, i'm new to the raptor just got a 01 660 that has been rode hard and put up wet more than once. It does have pro curcuit exhuast and a K&N Air filter, along with a jet kit (supposedly?!). The thing runs awesome when the engine is hot, but it rarely wants to start when its cold. it just cranks over until the battery eventually dies and i have to jump start it or charge the battery but it still cranks for a long time before it starts. Once it warms up it runs great. Ive cleaned the carbs and changed the plug, put on a new choke cable because it was siezed up inside the carb. I notice it had a 140 main jet in one carb and a 154 in the other, Is this normal? Any help would be appreciated

I would check the valve clearance. They tighten up over time. Hard cold starting is a symptom of tight valves.

Thanks for the advice. I just ordered a shop manual from the yamaha dealer so i can maybe adjust the valves. Hope it shows me how to do it anyway, never done it before. I should have also mentioned that it only does this when it is cool in the morning, if i wait until noon or after when it is hot in my shed it fire up pretty good. Want to get this figured out before winter we don't have to many 85 degree days left.
